How to consistently set your partner up for the option swing

Passing option balls consistently can seem like a difficult task, but there is one thing you can do to make it easier. Normally when we receive serves, our platform is angled towards the net in a 45 degree fashion. While doing this pushes the ball forward and sets up an in-system play, it does not push the ball upwards, and does not allow your partner to hit the option ball.

If you want to consistently pass an optionable swing, then you can try bending your knees before your platform makes contact with the ball. By consciously bending your knees before you pass, you not only make sure you get your feet to the ball, you also allow your platform to go from a 45 to 60 degree angle to a 15 to 30 degree angle. This will allow you to push the ball up higher, giving your partner the opportunity to hit the option ball.
